Deciding On Tiles For The Bathroom

Bath areas can look really good with tiles. It is possible to express yourself with them or select wisely to make a specific effect. Vivid colours can show character whereas neutral colours can help to make a room look larger. Conversly, darker colours can make a room look smaller.

For a bathroom, you have got to ensure that the bathroom tiles you select for the wall and worktops are resistant to water. Floor tiles will need to have this feature, and also the added property of being tough because people will be regularly walking on them. Additionally, with floor tiles, make sure they are not too smooth because people can easily slip on them.

Glazed tiles present the most choice of colour and styles. They are available as small or large tiles. Large tiles will cover your walls more quickly but small tiles will give a feeling of more space. One thing to watch with glazed tiles is that they are prone to wearing and then the colour will be lost because it doesn’t go right through.

You can use quarry tiles for the bathroom but make sure that they are sealed to protect them from moisture.

If you’re getting a professional in to tile your bathroom, you could leave the tile choice to them after giving them guidance on colour and size, however you will want to have final approval before they go ahead.

You can create effects with the colouring of the grout too. Contrasting colours are very eye-catching, whereas a similar colour is going to blend in and give the effect of a continuous surface. It’s up to you what look you want to try and achieve.

You will also need to make sure that the glue you buy to fix your tiles in place is waterproof, otherwise your tiles can fall off. If you require advice, ask the people you are purchasing your tiles from. They will probably sell glue too anyway.

It is important to make sure that you don’t use grout to seal the gap between the bath and the wall because it can crack and then lose the waterproofing effect. A silicon sealant is the best option and these are commonly available.

Whatever bathroom tiles you choose to buy, make sure they are ones that will match your current and future needs.

Tiles can help you create a great bathroom – one you will be content to spend time in.

What You Should Look For In A Bathroom Tile Design

Many people do not think through the design principles behind which kind of bathroom tiles they want, resulting in a bathroom that is too stark and cold or too floral and soft.Consider the design impact of your colour and type of tiles when you choose them.

If any room needs tiles, it’s usually the bathroom.Tiles add to a bathroom’s finish, giving it the final touch of style.Otherwise you could use water resistant wallpaper, but this doesn’t last too long and needs to be replaced.  Or you could choose specialist bathroom paint, which is fine if your walls are perfectly smooth. If not you will need to sand down and reapply fresh plaster. But for non-smooth walls, tiles are a good choice.

But when choosing tiles for your bathroom you need to choose specialist ceramic bathroom tiles. They can cope with the heat and wet of a bathroom, which produce frequent steam and humidity.

You can save money on cheap standard tiles, but cutting corners in this way can cost you dear if they don’t last.

Colours are also something you need to keep in mind.A minimalist bathroom often comes with sleek surfaces, sharp colours and very often white bathroom tiles. But when you take a second look, they can appear harsh. To break up the white block of colour, try using a white tile with a coloured insert, for example black, grey or silver.

Some bathroom tile designs can be fairly rustic or flowery. These may suit you down to the ground, but if you plan on selling it’s best to be more conservative.Floral or chintz designs won’t appeal to everyone.

Colours should not be too strong.A black or red bathroom might be what floats your boat, but it might be hideous to a prospective buyer.Even if not intending to sell, vibrant colours can wear off after a while, so be careful.

To choose the right tiles, keep a check on your wilder style choices, and you’ll have a bathroom that’s elegant and stylish but also timeless.

Decorating your Bathroom With Ceramic Tiles

Correctly using tiles to finalise the style and look of your bathroom is perhaps the best way of giving it a co-ordinated look that will create a tasteful and elegant bathroom. To insure that the end result is a complete success there are some things you might want to consider otherwise you may end up with a style disaster!

Bathroom tiles are now very much seen as a critical way of ensuring that your bathroom looks elegant chic but also timeless. If you choose bathroom tiles that are exceptionally fashionable, they can look somewhat dated in a few years. It is far better to concentrate on using contemporary tiles that are stylish enough to still look effortlessly chic in 5 years or so.

One look that has been very popular is a wall of cream tiles (or equivalent) with a band of colour midway up the wall, breaking up the colour and providing a break to the eye. While this looks good, it is extremely popular and can be seen everywhere.

To create splashes of colours, the random use of coloured ceramic bathroom tiles from the same range, can interject colour, but look stylish and contemporary, without creating a style that will easily date.

Rectangular, larger tiles can also give a chic appearance to a bathroom and are easier to put up, rather than the smaller tiles. Mosaic tiles are acceptable around the wash hand basin or shower/bath, but they can date very quickly.

Many people try to emulate far grander bathroom designs within a tiny, standard bathroom. Don’t go for the look of the five star hotels you have seen in Dubai! If the space is smaller than the original then it just won’t work. Take some of the key features of the bathroom such as the shower, hand basin and copy the style using your own taste and style to guide you in your choice of tiles. If you do this the tiles will be the right size for the room.

In a small bathroom, go for small tiles as large ones can make the room look even smaller.

Thus designing a stylish look with bathroom tiles is not too difficult, but you do need to think about your bathroom, its size and how the tiles will wear and look in the future. Don’t get carried away when thinking about how you want your bathroom to look, keep your head level and be realistic about what you have to work with.
