Tips on Choosing Bathroom Theme Accessories
If you feel like numerous other homeowners who regard their bathroom as nothing more than a shiny blaze of fixtures and fittings together with tile, try rethinking how your bathroom can be. It is not that challenging, since all you want is your imagination to figure out exactly the look and feel that you would prefer. Here are a few design pointers on accessories for the bathroom that will warm up the bathroom in no time at all.
Bathrooms, as with every other room in a house, should be themed because it offers the space a mood and adds your personality to your little corner of the world. It is where you can state, intentionally, what is most important to you. There are hundreds of design themes to pick from, including country, dolls, ocean life or even villas on the Mediterranean. The choice is yours, so choose the theme that you desire. It is a good idea to pick a theme that matches, or at least correlates with other design styles in your house. That way, it will not be too fussy, or out of tune with other areas of the house.
If your bathroom is a little on the small side, you are not out of line with a lot of other householders since bathrooms in older houses were quite literally carved out of small unused closets. Even if you are one of the many unfortunate folks that have inherited a smaller bathroom, you can still decorate for color. Bear in mind though, that with smaller bathrooms, less is oftentimes more. Your color scheme can be paint or wallpaper, but if the space is modest, a neutral paint or wallpaper color can be applied on either one wall, or as an accent on a chair rail. You can opt to paint a traditional white, and accent with color using various decorating accessories such as framed photographic prints, shells, baskets, throw rugs, and window treatments to name but a few.
Warm rust shade of paint or paper work very well with plants in the bathroom. But, choose plants that like steamy warm conditions, and that can endure the different chemicals. Many plants just cannot take the mousse, hairspray, and fragrances that are used on a regular basis in a bathroom. It will gum up the plants leaves and they will finish up in your trash can. If your bathroom is big enough, you can hang plants from the ceiling, or arrange them on the rear of the lavatory. Large garden style bathtubs have sufficient space on the rim of the tub to put tiny plants, and together with bath soaps and baskets, they look lovely.
Another important aspect when decorating your bathroom are the towels and rugs. Deep plush or hand woven rugs bring a touch of elegance. Even So, take care when putting rugs on slippery ceramic tile bathroom flooring because a nasty fall can be the result. Look for rugs that have a lined backing of rubber to prevent falls. You can coordinate the rugs with the bathroom mat in alternate or matching colors as well. Using different textures that match your theme will give the bathroom a little additional feeling of warmth. Do not think you are limited on textures because when they are mixed with a neutral backdrop, they make a bathroom homey and inviting to be in.
Towel racks are another way to give a little zing to your bathroom. Ornamental racks with colorful towels make a bathroom stand out. You can find towel racks in assorted shades of wood, bronze, silver or gold. Many people paint their own wooden racks, and match their baskets and picture frames with them.
Lighting for the bathroom is just as important as the decoration and accessories. As a matter of fact, light can make or break the mood of any room. Because water and electricity do not mix very well, your first consideration must be safety. If you have youngsters in the house, I would suggest that all lighting should be fixed and inaccessible to small wet hands. That aside however, you can leave night lights on when the bathroom is not being used and if counter top space permits, a small lamp. You can then fit lamp shades that match your general theme.
Lastly, if you are lost for ideas, read through some home decorating books or magazines for inspiration to get your creative juices flowing. You might well discover some themes that you did not even know existed. It is your little corner of the world, so be as unique as you want when dressing your home bathroom
